Do you remember how we used to travel with big paper city maps, on which we drew the places we wanted to visit? Yes, that was the time before GPS, when a Swedish innovator saved us by putting small towns in the palm of our hands, with a realistic representation of our current location and the path to the desired place.

You may be surprised to learn how Skype was created in Sweden. Due to the high telephone bills that resulted from the development of international trade, it became an opportunity for discovery for them. And so they rationalized costs, but also improved the quality of communication, without which we cannot imagine life today.

A sustainable mechanism for the production of unique cast iron dishes in a sand mold

Sweden, as one of the main exporters of iron in the world, combined this natural material with more than 2,06 % carbon and other natural materials, which produced an extremely solid solution known as cast iron, which withstands high temperatures and ensures the product's longevity.

For this material to take the form in which it arrives in our homes, Skeppshult paid special attention to the creation of sand molds. Each mold is made especially for one handpouring of the cast iron material at more than 1500 degrees, which brings us a unique piece of tableware. After the mold is depressurized, the sand is recycled and prepared to re-prepare the mold for the next creation of a unique Skeppshult product.

The magic doesn't stop there. To protect each product from external damage and to provide cast iron with a natural and non-sticky property, natural rapeseed oil is added to it. And there is a guarantee that each of your meals from Skeppshult will be the way you imagined it.

The signature of superior quality is ensured by high production standards, so if the product does not meet them, Skeppshult recycles it and returns it through all stages, to ensure the eternity they have been promising since 1906.

Usage

The first usage of cast iron requires care with oil, we recommend coating all metal parts with a thin layer of oil and heating them on the stove until they begin to smoke and stop smoking. You can repeat this process two or three times. For dishes that do not have a wooden handle, you can do this procedure in the oven at the highest temperature. It is preferable to coat the ribbed dish and the waffle pan with a brush, to coat the entire surface.

Cast iron heats up relatively evenly and retains heat well, which makes it ideal for grilling meat. When baking, the cast iron must be well heated and oiled. The meat is baked until it releases from the surface by itself, you must not scratch it off by force. Only when it has released itself can you turn it.

Seasoning

Cast iron is porous so it will absorb oil and close the pores. This process is called "seasoning" and it gives the dishes properties similar to Teflon.

In the beginning, it would be good to avoid cooking foods that contain acids, such as tomatoes, because they destroy the non-stick layer. Only when the pan is well seasoned, cooking foods with acid will not be a problem, however, after cooking, do not keep the food for a long time in cast iron dishes.

Washing

gus posude.jpgAvoid frequent washing of cast iron dishes with strong detergents. It is best to scrub the still warm dishes under running water with a regular sponge or brush, and if something is scratched, instead of washing-up liquid, use kitchen salt that you will heat up and rinse off.

After washing, it is very important to dry the dishes well, preferably on the stove, and when dry, coat them with a thin layer of oil on all sides and then heat them on the stove until they stop smoking. If you stop this process while the dishes are still smoking, a thin sticky layer will form on the dishes - no big deal.

It is important to note that, unlike other dishes, cast iron gets better and better over time and this process of heating with oil after cleaning will gradually become unnecessary, and the dishes will get a shiny smooth layer and thus become even more beautiful.

If the cast iron develops traces of rust, it should be scrubbed with salt and water until the rust is removed and the seasoning process repeated.
