Baking Soda
Baking Soda
INGREDIENTS: Sodium bicarbonate, NaHCO3
Baking soda, also known as sodium bicarbonate, is one of the most common items found in the kitchen. This white powder is sparingly soluble in water and is predominantly used in baking cakes and pastries.
FLAVOR
Sometimes described as slightly bitter, its taste is rarely noticeable, and it is used to neutralize acidity.
USED in powder form.
BUYING AND STORING
It can be found in almost any store or spice shop. Keep it sealed in a container in a dry place as it quickly absorbs odors.
CULINARY USE
It is used to leaven dough and is added to cake mixes, pastries, or pancakes. In reaction with buttermilk, vinegar, honey, yogurt, or lemon juice, it creates a reaction that releases carbon dioxide, which "lifts" the dough and creates a soft texture.
In addition to baking, it is used in the production of carbonated beverages, artificial mineral waters, in cosmetics, and can also be used for household cleaning.
People often drink it mixed with water to reduce heartburn, and it also helps clean the oral cavity.
