Many archaeologists, botanists, and historians believe that onions originated from central Asia, while others believe that onions first appeared in the area of Iran and western Pakistan.
To the Egyptians, onions symbolized eternity, and they buried them with the pharaohs. They saw onions as representing eternal life because of their anatomy, namely the concentric circles visible when an onion is cut in half. Onion frescoes appear on the inner walls of pyramids and tombs from the New and Old Kingdoms.

Onions have a distinctive and strong characteristic taste, sweet and tangy, similar to garlic.

SHOPPING AND STORAGE
Buy fresh onions at markets and supermarkets, and they can be purchased as green onions or dried onions. Dried onions are dry on the outside but fresh on the inside and can be yellow and purple in color, so make sure they have no scratches or bruises.
Such onions can last for weeks, and keep them in a cool and dry place, while onion powder and granules in the same conditions can last for months.
CULINARY USE
Onions are one of the few ingredients found in every kitchen in the world and can be boiled, baked, fried, steamed, dried, and fresh.
The French adore onion soup, while in Britain, they are pickled and eaten in pubs with beer.
You can use onion powder and granules wherever you would normally use onions as a flavor enhancer. It goes great with various pastas, pizzas, sauces, and meat. It can be added to salads and soups and is excellent combined with fresh or cooked vegetables and with salad.
Along with chili and herbal spices, it goes great with omelets and guacamole.
